Rob McDonald launched Excel Custom Decks on May 8, 2000, with a clear purpose: to build more than just outdoor structures—he set out to create spaces where families could relax, connect, and make lasting memories. His passion for working outdoors and delivering high-quality results led him to build a company known for speed, efficiency, and craftsmanship.

Over two decades later, that same vision still drives Rob and his team. Whether it’s a small backyard upgrade or a full custom deck, he approaches every project with the belief that outdoor living should be functional, beautiful, and deeply personal. His philosophy is summed up in a simple phrase that guides the company’s work: “decking excellence by design.”

Rob’s long-term goal is to take Excel Custom Decks to a national level, expanding through corporate and franchise locations while maintaining the personalized service and attention to detail that have become the company’s trademark. He understands that growth doesn’t mean compromising on quality—it means raising the standard across the board.

Outside of the business, Rob enjoys spending time with his family, riding his Harley, and going on camping trips. He’s also actively involved in his community, volunteering with the local fire department and supporting youth sports programs.
